Sonthonax Abolished Slavery In Haiti.
French Commissioner Léger Félicité Sonthonax, without approval from the French government, Abolished slavery in St Dominque, Now Haiti. Sonthonax declared the emancipation of the slaves of St. Domingue. Slavery is forever abolished in Haiti in Article 2 of the first Haitian constitution of 1805 under Jean-Jacques Dessalines.
